Big Project

Numero Uno

The Cancer Paper

Writing in biology is an important skill and a rather lucrative vocation (a good-paying job). We will be doing a couple more big projects like this. The finished product will be a well-organized 2-3 page paper with a bibliography.

Here are some guidelines for ensuring your success on this paper.

1.      Because “cancer” is really too big a topic for this size project, you will need to pick a topic within the concept of cancer. Perhaps a type of cancer or a new treatment. Anything related to cancer may be suitable, but choose something you’re interested in. Regardless of your topic, the term cancer deserves to be defined (intro paragraph?).

2.      A topic statement and three preliminary sources IN MLA FORMAT need to be turned in by next class, Wednesday, May 16, 2007. MLA guidelines here

3.      An introduction paragraph and an outline of your paper is then due on Tuesday, May 22, 2007.

4.      Your paper should include a bibliography in MLA form with at least three sources. Bibliography format info is available on my website as well as the library website. Footnoting is not necessary.

5.      Your completed paper should be no more than three pages typed and should be well-organized with a introductory and conclusion paragraph. The words you write must be your own. Cutting and pasting from web-pages is plagiarism and will result in a zero! I WILL catch you. Don’t even try.

6.      Completed papers are due Thursday, May 24, 2007 and NO LATER.

7.      If you hand in your paper early, I will preview your paper and give you feed back and you can correct it and resubmit it for an even better grade.

Due dates:

5/16/07 – Topic statement and three sources

5/22/07 – Intro paragraph and outline

          5/24/07 – Final write-up
